YHWH's Hospitality

YHWH's hospitality can be repaid not by the impossible feat of throwing an even bigger party than the land flowing with milk and honey, but simply by enabling the poor and the marginalized to taste their share of it. That is, after all, the divine patron's wish, 'who secure justice for the fatherless and the widow, and shows love towards the stranger among you' (Deut 10.18)

한국말로 번역(의역?)을 해보자면 이렇다:

우리가 감당할 수 없는 위대한 일, 이를테면 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅보다 더 큰 잔치를 베푸는 것으로는 야훼의 환대에 보답할 수 없다. 오히려 가난한 이들과 소외된 이들이 그 환대의 자리에 함께하도록 하는 단순한 실천이면 충분하다. 왜냐하면 그것이야말로 “고아와 과부를 위해 정의를 실현하시고, 우리 가운데 있는 나그네를 사랑하시는” 하나님(신명기 10장 18절)의 뜻이기 때문이다.

짧은 글이지만 깊은 울림을 준다. 오늘 우리가 마주한 현실을 떠올릴 때, 그 메시지는 더욱 묵직하게 다가온다.
